21. Plan a special weekend with your
spouse a friend or on your own. Make sure you do something
that you love! You can go away to a vacation area or stay at
home but do things you don’t normally do. If you’re on a budget,
think of some fun things to do that are free or low cost. If you
can afford it, splurge on a special meal, movie, play or other
entertainment that really puts a smile on your face.
22. Rent a funny, romantic or cute movie and watch it at
home with friends or family. You might want to try a Disney
movie or a movie you’ve already seen that you love. You could
also ask a friend if you can bring the movie over to his or her
house. Enjoy watching it together.
23. Have a dress up party where everyone gets to dress in
a playful and funny way.
24. Call and ask a friend to tell you what they like about
you. Be sure your friend understands that you’re asking them
to tell you what they appreciate about you. This is not a
request for constructive criticism or negative feedback.
25. Take a walk with your spouse or a friend in the
moonlight. Enjoy the subtle glow of the moon.
26. Have an old movie party. Invite some friends to bring
their favorite old movie, make lots of comments while watching,
eat popcorn and have a great time. You could even have the
guests dress up like characters from their favorite movie.
27. Spend ten minutes brainstorming with a friend,
relative or co-worker about new ways to have fun. Write
these ideas down and be open to following through by
doing some of them. Make a date with your
brainstorming partner to do at least one of your fun things in
the next week.
28. Read a funny poem, joke or story that really makes you
laugh. You could share this with a spouse, loved one or
friend to make it even more fun.
29. Leave an appreciative or encouraging motivational message
on a friend or loved one’s phone machine. For example: “I really
appreciate you and I’m glad you’re in my life”.
30. Do you have a friend or relative who could use some help?
Offer to help him or her. Set a time to get together and notice
how good you feel after you’ve helped out.
31. Think of someone you’d like to stay in contact with
but haven’t connected with in a long time. Write a letter or put
a note on a card and send it. Say something nice, share
something funny or silly or even just “Hi”. You could also do
this with e-mail. Another idea is to send a card to someone you
normally talk with on the phone but to whom you rarely send
letters.
32. Make a list, using colored pens, of some of the positive
things you appreciate about a friend or loved one. Put the
list in your wallet, on your wall or computer screen. Another
option could be to use your word processor to choose a fancy
font and type color for this list. Print it on a color printer
at work, at home or at a copy shop.
33. Get a hug or make a phone call when you feel lonely.
34. Plan an unusual family event that is not associated with
a regular holiday. Call all your relatives and friends and
invite them to share a fun evening or afternoon with you. You
could have a potluck supper where everyone brings something made
from a favorite family recipe or something new and different.
Perhaps you’d like to play some games like charades where
everyone can participate.
